Fuel consumption for the 2017 Hyundai i30 is dependent on the type of engine, transmission, or model chosen. The Hyundai i30 currently offers fuel consumption from 4.5 to 7.7L/100km. The Hyundai i30 is available with the following fuel types: Diesel and ULP. Hyundai i30 Overview. For the all-new i30 hatchback, Hyundai has replaced the previous model’s 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre petrol engines with a new 1.8-litre with more power and reduced fuel consumption. The 1.6-litre turbo-diesel has been re-worked and it too provides more power and better fuel consumption. Designated CRDi and sold in SX or SLX trim levels, the 1.6-litre turbo-diesel delivered 85kW and fuel economy that took the fight right to Hyundai’s Euro-sourced rivals. Diesel versions of the i30 were priced from a sensational $20,990 and made the SX manual Australia’s lowest-priced diesel passenger car.
The Hyundai i30 CRDi manual now boasts a combined cycle fuel consumption of 4.5 litres/100km (down from 4.7 litres/100km), making it one of the most fuel efficient cars in the country.

Even if you get the most efficient car (hybrid like Prius or diesel like polo TDI) you'll be saving some 8-10 cents per kilometre. At 100 km a day, it'll be 10 buck a day, or 2600 a year (assuming 5 days of travel). So like others pointed out, it'll take 10 years or so for return to happen.

The OBDII gives all sorts of info about the vehicle and the engine including fuel usage, speed of the vehicle, distance travelled, etc, direct from the vehicles computer system. There is where the i30 trip computer gets its info. From what I have read, the ScanGuage gives fuel consumption figures with a 2 second delay, which is near enough to

Hyundai quotes an average fuel consumption figure of 5.3L/100km, which you could probably come close to if you’re careful with the throttle. In reality though you’ll probably edge somewhere around 6 or 7 with a more regular driving style. More enthusiastic drivers though would actually appreciate the i30’s driving abilities.
