Download a clean PS3 system software copy onto a thumb drive; you do this first or at least have a thumb drive ready because you will need it later. Pull out your hard drive, install it on your computer as a drive, and do a full format of the drive in FAT32 format. 3. Connect the other end of the cable to the PS3. The other end of the charging cable should plug into a USB port on the front of the PS3. Depending on your PlayStation model, you'll find either two or four USB ports here. 4. Turn on the controller. Press the PlayStation button in the middle of the controller.
Connect your hard drive or external storage device to Windows PC. Step 2. Double-click This PC/My computer to open File Explorer. Step 3. Locate and right-click on the USB drive, select "Format". Step 4. Set the FAT32 as the target file system, tick "Quick Format" and click "Start" to start the formatting.
i have a phat 2nd gen (2 usb port, none BC) 80gb ps3 after changing the thermal paste, used arctic cooling mx-2, my cpu goes to 80c and the rsx (gpu) goes to 60c with in 5 minutes. Don't use AS5. AS5 needs 200 hours of curing (running it stressed for 200 hours to reach optimal performance).
If you only want to play digital games the super slim is technically quieter and more power efficient and less hot. 34. DeadPhoenix86. • 2 yr. ago. PS3 Super Slim works fine with disc's. Mine is near silent. Also runs a lot cooler compared to the regular Slim. 25. Kirbeef.

Even then, the only reason the capacitors are a problem is because people let their systems accumulate tons of dust inside the ps3 which suffocates the capacitors under
For the slim (and super slim) I would take it apart and use a can of air to blow out all the dust once every few years. Make extra sure that the heatsink fins and PSU are blown clean. I would not mess with the thermal paste however. Not unless you're having problems and you've tried bowing out the dust already. 1.
You won't lose any data from removing your hdd and putting it back later. If you are really worried about it, you can backup your savegames. That's a smart thing to do anyway since hdd's do fail over time. But it's not needed for what you are doing now. 4.
Step 6. Lift the top cover from its rear edge and rotate it toward the front of the PS3. Remove the top cover. There is a plastic hook located in a hole on the top back right hand side corner. Carefully push the plastic hook a bit from the rear of the machine with a spudger to release the rear right of the casing. 7 comments. Sony discontinued them when the Slim and Super Slim PS3s were released, and unfortunately, I can personally say that I’ve had the experience of having my trusty launch 60GB PS3 give up the ghost Use the Phillips screwdriver as well as the flat blade screwdriver. Pull out the power plug. Use the flat blade screwdriver to unscrew, and remove the panel. Remove all the screws from the case. Also, remove the data cable ribbon. Remove the metal frame of the Blu-ray drive. The Ps3 Super slim has 12gb flash memory, so you shouldn't have to install any firmware. The custom firmware should be fine. You can purchase a hard drive bracket/caddy from amazon that will work with any 2.5 sata hard drive that is 1 tb or less. moep123. So I've had my ps3 super slim for 4 months now and it's filled with dust. Could anyone tell me a guide on how to safely clear it out? Thanks. Your best bet would be to get a keyboard duster or "canned-air" as I call it, and blow in the back, front, and side vents of the PS3. This should dislodge most if not all the major dust inside the system. Keep a vacuum nearby to suck the large dust clumps that come out. Keep going around the sides until it doesn't blow dust from the other orifices. zKo5hor.
